Windows® 8 Release Preview is officially available for download. Feedback from the millions of users who tested the pre-release version state that this final product implements changes to major applications like Internet Explorer® 10, Windows® 8 apps for Hotmail® connections, SkyDrive™, Messenger©, and many more.
Official statements from Microsoft® claim that no other product development has had this extent of open dialog regarding product features, design, and background. The level of innovation is impressive with an overhauled operating system that supports mobile touch technology and comes complete with its own app store. Windows® 8 combines connectivity, cloud access to personal files, seamless updates and a revamped user interface in a cohesive, streamlined manner.
Microsoft® is departing from the WIMP (Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer) computer interface, and embracing a modern touch-centric, single focus model which more closely resembles that of the iPad® and Windows® phone, than the traditional Windows® display. Although this is a radical change from the more familiar Windows® interface and has massive refinements, initial reviews of Windows® 8 Release Preview are mixed. Microsoft® may have transformed Windows® into something so supersonic slick that the bigger challenge may lie in swaying its large base of Windows® traditionalists to switch.
The general view is that if Microsoft® is successful in this endeavor, it will transform its operating system from one that is considered unsuitable for modern mobile computing, to one that is exquisitely engineered for the next generation of cloud connected devices. The controversy continues, but there is nothing out there that even comes close to this cutting edge achievement.
