Microsoft® rolled out the Windows® Upgrade Offer on June 2nd, 2012 to 131 markets including the USA and Canada. Users who purchased eligible Windows® 7 PCs with preinstalled Windows® 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate with a matching valid OEM Certificate of Authenticity through January 31, 2013 will qualify to purchase the Windows® 8 Pro Upgrade for $14.99 upon availability.

Steven Sinofsky of Microsoft, announced that Windows® 8 would be available as both an upgrade and as a new installation on October 26th, 2012. This information was released at the Microsoft® annual sales meeting and is expected to mark an increase in Microsoft® users due to enhanced modern touchscreen and cloud capabilities. Microsoft Chief Financial Officer, Tami Reller, confirmed that Windows® 8 would officially be available in October and is on track to Release to Manufacturing (RTM) the first week of August.
